JOURNAL
Call For Submissions
Cover Art by Sei CombetThe premier issue of The Dancing Tree Journal will take a cross cultural look at sexuality. We are presently collecting oral histories, poems, stories, inklings, sentences, photography, collages, paintings, drawings, thumbnails and all other visual media who's content reflects sexuality in the widest sense of the word.
Our intent is simple: To celebrate sexual identity and sexual expression as the most fundamental human rights of all individuals. We realize that this being the premier issue of The Dancing Tree Journal, you don't have much of an idea of what our approach is, so here are a few examples which illustrate the diversity of the submissions that we've received and are interested in so far:
An article on how persons with significant developmental disabilities construct sexual identities as gay, lesbian and bisexual within community and residential contexts; Photographs of all the love charms that one man accumulated over a ten year period; Poems by survivors of sex crimes; Testimonies by persons who have committed sex crimes; An article on race and sexuality; A professional clown's story of his romance with a pin-up girl; Love stories by psychiatric survivors; Poems and art by persons with and without disabilities; Visual art from intersexed individuals about the western birth industry's bias toward a two-sexed orientation to the world; Stills from a video made by a woman with cerebral palsy about the struggles and joys in her relationships; Narrative photo-reconstructions of a boyhood crush; A transcript and photographs of a performance artist's imagined dialogue between his two nipples; Many paintings and drawings about sexuality; Lyrics of favorite love songs.
We hope you see that there is plenty of room for everyone's voice. We encourage you to submit your work to us even if one of the above examples sounds similar to what you are intending to send to us, as we are still collecting material and have not started our final selection process yet. We also encourage you to submit to The Dancing Tree Journal even if you think your work is not "professional" enough because The Dancing Tree Journal is especially interested in giving individuals an opportunity to get their voices heard who haven't already done so.
Our selection process is based on relevance not censorship. No matter how subtle or extreme if the work is relevent and there's room, we'll print it. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to pay you for your generous contributions to The Dancing Tree Journal. We can, however, offer you two complimentary copies of the journal as well as our undying gratitude. All profits from the sale of The Dancing Tree Journal will be donated to organizations working to prevent sexual abuse.
